The End of the Varsity Regular Season

Last night marked the end of the regular season games for the Patriots in Varsity Volleyball and Soccer.  Both teams finished with exciting wins to send them into the ODACS playoffs.

The soccer guys were thankful that the early morning rain stopped so they could play.  Thankfully the field dried out a little bit before their 4:00 start.  The Patriots recorded a resounding victory with a score of 8-0.  Multiple players scored one goal including David Parsons, Matthew McGary, Adriel Ferrer, and Noah Wells.  Jacob Phillips and Gabe Ortiz scored two goals each in the shut-out.  The Soldiers from Great Hope did a great job and worked hard right along side our Patriots.  Congratulations to the guys on their victory!

The Varsity Volleyball team played a hard-fought match that went out to the full five sets for the first time this season.  All of the girls contributed to the win over the five sets.  It was an extremely exciting game to watch!  The girls lost the first set 18-25.  Then they won the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-16.  They fell short in the fourth set with a score of 17-25 which forced a fifth and deciding set.  The Lady Patriots rose to the challenge and won by a 15-8 margin.  Briana Chavez had a serving run that really got the girls going in the second set!  Great job, Lady Patriots!

The JV Lady Patriots also played last night.  They were so close in the first set, but fell short by two points leaving the score 23-25.  The second set was a little tougher for the Lady Patriots, but each girl gave her best and honored the Lord even in a loss.  There were some great volleys between the teams in both sets, which proves that all the JV girls are improving in their skills.

The JV Lady Patriots have their final game on Thursday here at Tabernacle against Sweethaven with game time at 4:00.  Come cheer on the JV Lady Patriots as they finish their season!

We now await the ODACS standings for the soccer and volleyball tournaments.  We will keep you posted as to where each team falls and for the games that will be scheduled for the end of next week.  Come out and cheer on the teams as we seek to advance in these playoff rounds.

Busy Week for the Patriots!

On Tuesday, the Patriots started out the week with varsity soccer and volleyball games across town against Gateway. The soccer team worked hard and played a good game, but the final score left Gateway winning 4-0.

The volleyball team played a great game with marked improvement after Friday night’s tough loss. The girls had good team work and fought hard but lost in three sets. Final scores were as follows: 14-25, 15-25, 15-25.

Thursday night, the Varsity volleyball team played Commonwealth. Each girl got some playing time and all contributed to the victory. Feeling the absence of a couple of the starters, the team fought through a few rough patches. Elizabeth Peterson, the back-up setter, took charge and led the team to a much-needed victory!  Final scores for the sets were 25-22, 25-21, 26-28, 25-18.

Please join us at home on Friday night as all three teams compete against Landmark. Wear pink and help us honor all those who have fought their battle with breast cancer. Games start at 4:30!  See you there!

Another Friday Night on the Road

Last night, the Patriots traveled to Hampton to play Bethel.  We all enjoyed the fellowship with our friends from across the water and had a good night of competition as well.

The Varsity volleyball team had an off-night and struggled to execute their offense effectively, but as the game progressed things got better.  They finished the match with a much improved third set.  Nights like these remind us that we need  to keep working and preparing for each game and learn from the losses as they happen.  Final scores for the sets were 11-25, 10-25, 16-25.

The JV volleyball team played another good match against the Lady Pilots with close games in all three sets.  Dayun Shin served for the game winning play in the second set.  All the girls played well, and it is evident that each one is improving her skills.  The final scores for their match were 17-25, 26-24, 7-15.

The soccer team played a tight game with Bethel in this second meeting during the season.  There was only one goal scored at the end of the first half leaving the final score at 1-0 in favor of the Bethel Pilots.  Mr. McGary said that our guys had great ball control and took some good shots on the goal, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net last night.  It was a great effort by the Patriots, and we hope that the guys get some much-needed rest over the weekend after some very physically demanding games this week.

Next week holds three varsity volleyball matches on Tuesday at Gateway, Thursday against Commonwealth at home, and Friday against Landmark at home; only one JV match at home on Friday against Landmark; and two soccer games at Gateway on Tuesday and against Landmark at home on Friday.  Pray for our athletes this weekend and this week that they would stay healthy as we anticipate a busy week to come.  Thanks for your support!  GO PATRIOTS!!!!!

New Heights for the Soccer Team!!!!

Tonight, we had our first home game in quite a while.  It was good to be back on our gym floor and out on our soccer field representing the Patriots and the Victory Christian Eagles from Elizabeth City, NC.

The JV team lost their game tonight in 2 sets, but each group of girls on the floor played hard and gave it their all.  The JV coaches are excited to see the up and coming talent for the varsity team in the years ahead!  Final scores were 18-25 and 16-25.   Keep working hard, JV Lady Patriots!

The varsity volleyball team played an amazing match tonight!  There were some really exciting and long volleys between the two teams.  The girls did a great job at communicating with their teammates both on the court and from the sidelines!  Even with a loss in the books this evening, the Varsity Lady Patriots have made HUGE improvements in their game over the last few matches!  Coach Baker and Coach Peterson were pleased with the 110% effort from the whole team this evening! Final scores of the three sets were as follows: 8-25, 13-25, 17-25.  Great job tonight, Ladies!

The news highlight of the evening come from the soccer team!  Our Patriots defeated the Eagles tonight 3-2 in a hard-fought game.  The first half ended with the Patriots up 2-1 after Matthew McGary scored 2 goals.  One of the goals was tipped in off the keeper’s gloves from a corner kick, and the other was dropped right over the goalie’s hands and into the net on a beautifully executed play that our guys learned at the soccer camp they attended in August!  After Matthew McGary scored once more in the second half, the Eagles kept working to catch up.  They scored only once more in the second half even though they took numerous shots on the goal making the final score for tonight’s game 3-2 in favor of our Patriots!

This is a big win for our guys!  With a 3-2 winning record, the guys have accumulated more wins in this season than any season over at least the last seven years.  It is even more exciting to think that we still have FOUR MORE GAMES to play before the state tournament!  We look forward to what all three teams will be able to do with the remainder of the season.

Thanks again for supporting your Patriots!  Come across the HRBT to Bethel Baptist School in Hampton and watch all three teams play on Friday night at 4:00.  GO PATRIOTS!!!!

Another Exciting Evening on the Road for the Patriots

The Patriots traveled to Richmond last night and all three teams played against Landmark.  We had great games from all three teams, but we were unable to bring home any wins.

In the Varsity volleyball game, the girls started out a little slow, but gradually picked up the intensity as the game progressed.  The communication amongst the players was phenomenal!  We are happy to take steps of progress in different areas of the game even when we don’t win!  Final scores for the sets were 9-25, 12, 25, 16-25.  Great job, Lady Patriots!  Keep up the good work!

Out on the soccer field, the guys played a hard fought match.  During the first half, full back Adriel Ferrer dribbled the ball all the way up the field and crossed the ball so beautifully in front of the goal to assist Jacob Phillips in an amazing goal!  The guys continued to work hard to overcome the 2 goals that Landmark scored in the first half.  However, the second half did not yield any more goals for either team, leaving the final score 1-2 for a Landmark victory.  The guys keep continuing to improve, and we look forward to more close games in the future!

The highlight of the evening came in the Ladies’ JV Volleyball Match!  The first game was pretty good with some good serves and passing from both teams.  The younger girls are learning to face some teams with older girls than we have and do so with a measure of courage and strength even in a 9-25 loss in the first set.  In the second set, the JV Ladies came from behind and took the lead, and then we started trading points back and forth making for a very close game.  Elizabeth Peterson and Carolyn Peters did a great job as the setters on the floor to assist some exciting kills from their JV teammates.  The girls fought hard and the crowd cheered loudly as the teams played past the 25 point mark.  In the end, the JV Lady Patriots lost a hard-fought set, but no one was hanging her head as everyone on the floor had done a great job in a 29-31 point loss in the second set.  Many of the spectators mentioned that this was the most exciting volleyball game they had ever watched!  Way to go, JV Lady Patriots!  Hard work in practice pays off in performance!

Next games for the Patriots are scheduled at home against Victory Christian School.  Varsity volleyball and soccer begin at 4:00 and JV volleyball will begin shortly after the varsity match is complete.  Come on out and support your Patriots!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Varsity Volleyball Gets Another Win!

Last night, the varsity Lady Patriots travelled to Richmond and played Commonwealth at the Richmond Volleyball Club.  The girls were a little flat to start the game after being off for close to week with camp from last week, but they came back and won the game in three quick sets allowing the team to get on the road and make an early return to school.  We praise the Lord for safety in travel and look forward to our next varsity match on Friday at Landmark!

Score: 25-15, 25-17, 25-11

Pray for the JV Lady Patriots as we travel to Sweethaven this afternoon!

Tabernacle vs. Gill Grove

The soccer team took a long trip up to play Gill Grove this evening and brought home another win for the Patriots!

Score: TBA 2  Gill Grove 1

Matt McGary scored both the goals tonight for the Patriots.

Great to see our guys doing so well!  Thanks again for supporting your Patriots!  We have a few days off before our next game due to the evangelistic meetings at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Herbsters Evangelistic Team.  Our next game is scheduled for Monday, September 17 on the road against Commonwealth.

TBA vs. Great Hope

The Patriots had a great night at our first away game at Great Hope tonight.  Both of the Varsity teams recorded their first wins and the JV volleyball team lost a very close match, but played very well.

Here are some of the details and scores from tonight’s games.

Soccer: Tabernacle 9 Great Hope 0

The guys did a great job tonight on the soccer field.  They spread the nine goals around the team with the following guys scoring a goal a piece: Adriel Ferrer, Gabe Ortiz, Abraham Phillips, David Parsons, Jacob Phillips, and Caleb James.  Matthew McGary scored the remaining three goals!  Way to go, fellas!  You make the Patriot fans proud!

Varsity Volleyball: Won in three straight sets! (25-12, 25-18, 25-15)

The girls played exceptionally well tonight.  The time spent in practice yesterday paid off and they recorded the first win of their season.  It’s been quite a few years since the Patriots have been able to beat Great Hope in volleyball.  Both teams enjoyed the fellowship and renewed friendships from the summer break.

JV Volleyball: Lost in three sets (25-21, 17-25, 15-17)

The JV girls are improving at every game and practice.  Even though they did not win tonight, every girl made an impact on the game and had a good attitude even in the loss.  We look forward to many more games this season and to some wins that we hope will be in the future.

Thanks again to all the fans who traveled to Great Hope to support us.  Having you all there cheering us on makes the playing time on the court and on the field so much more enjoyable!

Make sure to check out the blog in the near future for some team pictures and action shots from recent games.

The next game is a soccer match on the road at Gill Grove.  Pray for the team as they make the long trip on Tuesday and as they seek out their next win.

TBA vs. Bethel

The soccer and volleyball teams played last night for their first game of the season.

The volleyball team lost in three sets but had some great improvements in implementing their brand new offense.

The Scores: 18-25, 17-25, 22-25

Matt McGary scored the first goal of the game putting us up 1-0. The soccer team completed the first half of the game, but had to stop during the second half due to the lightning.

The Score: TBA 1 Bethel 3

Thanks to our fans for the support!  We love to have you cheering us on!  Next game is at Great Hope on Friday, August 31.  Varsity volleyball and soccer start at 4:00 PM.  JV volleyball will play following the varsity game.  See you there!
